Your post brought tears to my eyes (specifically the Physicist poem).<br /><br />I grew up in a very Mormon family, left religion about six years ago, and now identify as a nontheist humanist. I've written several pages' worth with my take on grief without God, but have not yet shared it with the public as you have (though I did share a poem on my loss - http://bradcarmack.blogspot.com/2016/10/take-home-baby.html). <br /><br />I also appreciate your points about 1) similarities between Christians and atheists relative to grief, and 2) the upside of perceiving death as final.
